Hi, I'm
Tanja VeiL

I make worlds.

Me with the very first print version. The final one looks correct and is smaller. 😉
About Me

I have been writing since childhood; I’ve also been interested in Fantasy since I could read. At some point, I taught myself English, and I realized that I find that language better suited for epic tales than German (my native language being Swiss-German). So now I write in English.

My background in Latin is what awoke my love for languages and their evolution; you can feel that influence in my work.

Apart from writing I like to game (Guild Wars 2, Horizon, Divinity: Original Sin, Solasta, Clair Obscur…), and to be the DM for some ragtag Dungeons & Dragons adventurers.

Light Eternal

Light Eternal is going to be a trilogy and my first (self-)published work. At its heart is the story of two immortal sibling whose past is catching up to them. A past that is eternal and hungry. But–as is so often the case–things might not be quite as they seem.

Weaving Dawn, the first book in the trilogy, is starting out on a smaller scale. Among others, you will meet a gladiator bent on revenge for her murdered father; a disowned prince kept as prisoner who wants but to learn; a medic-in-training thrown into an adventure against her will… through their eyes, you will experience the unfolding of a story that is set to alter the face of the world.

Hellbound for Metal
or
help, we accidentally sold our souls to the devil

The gods like to play... ... and the newcomer Power Metal band 'Fat Wolves on Brooms' accidentally sell their souls to the devil. It’s not all that bad, though, because he is a very generous business partner.

If only it weren’t for that little clause in the contract that they weren’t told about (or if they were, they don’t remember, and there’s no picture, so it didn’t happen). Now suddenly their whole tour gets weirdly rescheduled while everyone and their dog is trying to kill them.

Nightmares and Dreams

Nightmares and Dreams is a collection of stories I wrote almost 10 years ago. They are inspired by the songs on the album 'XXX–Three Decades in Metal' by Kai Hansen, and by Lovecraft's works. I wrote these stories after having read through a Lovecraft anthology; I was left deeply impressed by Lovecraft's ability to hint at these vast and eldritch places and creatures just vaguely and absurdly enough that the imagination can take it and run wild with it.

With Nightmares and Dreams, I set myself the challenge to try and emulate his style; not fully, but enough that it should be noticeable. Reading through the stories again almost a decade later, I can see where the appeal came from to try this. I do not remember everything I contemplated or planned while writing these, and I don't have to. Not knowing every last detail of something has its own charm, and I might just try to finish this collection–as of now, a few songs still lack stories.
